Queries related to Schedule Management

Wed Mar 17, 2021 6:54 pm

Hi,

While I was going through Quampus video lessons for the Schedule Management Knowledge Area, had the following queries related to it:

1. If Schedule Baseline an output of "Develop Schedule" contains approved version of Project Schedule, Why is there another discrete Output called as "Project Schedule"?

2. Does "Control Schedule" has the job to check Actual vs Planned and raise CR in order to bring back the variance to adhere to Baseline AND/OR to change the baseline?

3. f "Control Schedule" has the job to check Actual vs Planned and raise CR either to bring back the variance to adhere to Baseline OR to change the baseline, WHY does the "Develop Schedule" has CR as the an output which presumably does also triggers change to Schedule Baseline?

4. When the Develop Schedule talk about the software used to generate the schedule model it refers it to be a part of PMIS, does this mean that Scheduling Tools such as Microsoft projects/Primavera are subset of PMIS?

Thanks in advance.

1. If Schedule Baseline an output of "Develop Schedule" contains approved version of Project Schedule, Why is there another discrete Output called as "Project Schedule"?
Schedule Baseline is an approved version of the schedule which is used as a reference, but we also need to work with the real version of the schedule which may have some variance but that is something now we are planning to do and that current version of the schedule is called Project Schedule, say someone was expected to fly to another city on 1 April but he got a ticket for 5th April, so the baseline will still have 1st April but the rest of the planning now is based on 5th April and we show that yes there was some unavoidable variance.
2. Does "Control Schedule" has the job to check Actual vs Planned and raise CR in order to bring back the variance to adhere to Baseline AND/OR to change the baseline?
Some variance we just live with but some needs action and that is why we analyze how we are doing and raise the Change Request to bring things back on track, say you may say we need to do fast tracking now.
3. f "Control Schedule" has the job to check Actual vs Planned and raise CR either to bring back the variance to adhere to Baseline OR to change the baseline, WHY does the "Develop Schedule" has CR as the an output which presumably does also triggers change to Schedule Baseline?
From PMBOK 6
6.5.3.5 CHANGE REQUESTS
Described in Section 4.3.3.4. Modifications to the project scope or project schedule may result in change requests to the scope baseline, and/or other components of the project management plan. Change requests are processed for review and disposition through the Perform Integrated Change Control process (Section 4.6). Preventive actions may include recommended changes to eliminate or reduce the probability of negative schedule variances.
So when you develop a schedule you realize you need to skip some scope and that an be change request as explained above.

4. When the Develop Schedule talk about the software used to generate the schedule model it refers it to be a part of PMIS, does this mean that Scheduling Tools such as Microsoft projects/Primavera are subset of PMIS?
Yes
