iZenBridge - COIN CONVERSATION - An approach

Thu May 20, 2021 9:21 am

The Agile Team Facilitator (ATF) role is to guide the team through the transformation required in Agile team environments and lead them towards collaboration and self-organization.

Agile Team Facilitators use various ways and approaches for effectively designing meetings and workshops that both engage the entire team and drive toward agreed-upon outcomes.

Leading a difficult conversation and giving constructive and positive feedback is one of the facilitator skills. It can be tricky at times for an Agile Team Facilitator and harsh words might damage relationships and behaviour or performance fails to improve, but the COIN Conversation model approach helps in both to facilitate an effective conversation to give feedback in a constructive, non-confrontational manner.

COIN CONVERSATION - An approach

The COIN Conversation is a structured approach to lead a difficult conversation and provide feedback. As a Facilitator, you can conduct a successful COIN conversation by organizing it into four key stages (Context, Observation, Impact, and Next Steps) which offers a positive, non-confrontational approach to feedback and conversations.

COIN model stands for both starting with Connection, sharing an Observation and explaining its Impact and moving on to the Next Step. As an Agile team facilitator you can use the COIN model to give detailed, objective feedback to your team members, lead a conversation and to help them to achieve positive, long-lasting change and goal.
